Peoples Bank Foundation Announces $58,500 in Grants for Regional Food Banks and Pantries
MARIETTA, OHIO (Nov. XX, 2017) – Peoples Bank Foundation, a non-profit corporation formed to make donations in Peoples Bank market areas, announced it has donated a total of $58,500 toward regional non-profits, charitable organizations, food banks and food pantries that distribute food to individuals and families who have difficulty purchasing enough food to avoid hunger. In 2017, the Peoples Bank Foundation provided donations to 48 organizations throughout Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky.
“Peoples Bank is proud to increase its support of food banks and pantries in communities across our region,” said Staci Matheney, Chairman and President of Peoples Bank Foundation. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 12.3 percent (15.6 million) of U.S. households were food insecure at some time during the past year. Food insecure households are defined by the USDA as being uncertain of having, or unable to acquire, enough food to meet the needs of all their members. Matheney added, “This reality is consistent across the areas we serve. If you have a school age child at home, it is likely that your child has classmates that struggle to get enough to eat.”
The grants will be used by each of the 48 grantees to purchase food and support on-going community nutritional needs.
The Peoples Bank Foundation focuses its contributions on charitable giving in four major areas: community investment and economic development, youth and education, human services programs that improve the social needs of low- to moderate-income communities and individuals, and arts and culture. Organizations receiving foundation grants must meet those requirements and serve the markets where Peoples Bank currently has offices.
