Civil Solutions Associates – GBQ Member of the Week: 12.11.2017

Providing Civil and Geotechnical Engineering, Design Consultation and Project Management throughout the Midwest United States.

At Civil Solutions Associates (CSA) projects include: stream bank reconstruction, landslide remediation, roller compacted dams, segmental retaining walls, deep foundations, soil nail walls, reinforced slopes, shoring systems, numerical modeling services for complicated projects like tunnels, levees, dams,  foundations, special retention systems and dynamic analysis.

CSA performs numerical analyses with FLAC3D, Plaxis, Plaxis 3D Tunnel or Plaxis 3D Foundation. The solution for a given problem could range from a simple analysis based on our collective experience and judgment, to one using state-of-the-art numerical modeling technology.

How long have you been in business and what do you do?

Civil Solutions Associates is a geotechnical civil engineering and construction management firm. We started at the dining room table and now have 15 full-time employees plus part-time and intern positions. We moved out to Clermont County in 2012 and enjoy working on regional Bridges, Dams, Airports, Buildings, and Roadways. Geotechnical engineering means that we handle everything from the ground down, and love to work on Retaining Walls, Landslides and Foundation Systems.  We tackle some jobs that are dirty, tough, and nasty, and others where people throw their hands up.

What advice would you give someone going into a leadership position for the first time?

Learn how to trust and encourage your team to develop themselves because it is through their growth that your team will thrive and achieve.  Find what people do best and remind them how well they do it.  Then ask them where their weaknesses lie, and support them.  I feel awesome when I see our people tackle a problem, develop a solution, and own the result.

Where would we find you on a typical Saturday?

Never in the same spot.  I have many talents and interests and exposing my family to those things is what I enjoy most. My wife and I have two children and I love to see them taking interest and exploring new people and places. Hiking, camping, and exploring the natural world is amazing as there are so many wonderful things in nature to enjoy.
